About the Program

The radiologic technologist is an essential member of the healthcare team dedicated to preserving patient health by helping to diagnosis injury and disease through the use of medical imaging technologies. This program is fully accredited and provides the student with excellent academic and clinical experience in general radiography and two of the following specialties:  CT scanning (Computed Tomography), MRI scanning (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), women's imaging to include: mammography and DXA (osteoporosis detection) scanning. Radiographers operate x-ray equipment to create images of tissues, bones, organs, and blood vessels within the human body. The images created by the radiographer are then interpreted and a diagnosis is made by a radiologist, a physician who has specialized in interpreting and diagnosing radiographic images.

Upon graduation, students receive the Bachelor of Science in Radiological Sciences Degree. Program graduates are eligible to apply for the national certification examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Individuals who pass the examination are known as registered technologists, RT(R).

Program Philosophy

In association with the mission of Bellin College, it is the intention of the School of Radiologic Sciences to educate medical imaging students who will function as proficient health care professionals and team members possessing a constant concern for quality patient care and technical competency. It is the School’s intention to maintain the highest program standards, thus insuring accreditation by the Joint Review Committee in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) guaranteeing graduates their eligibility for examination by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Program Goal 1: Graduates will demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Recognize sub-optimum image quality and demonstrate corrective action.

  2. Demonstrate knowledge of non-routine radiographic procedures.


Program Goal 2: Graduates will have an understanding and appreciation for optimum radiation protection.

Student Learning Outcome:

  1. Practice radiation safety within established dose limits

  2. Demonstrate knowledge of radiation protection principles and practices.


Program Goal 3: Graduates will demonstrate professional behavior and effective communication skills.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Obtain student membership in professional organization (s).

  2. Complete a senior level portfolio.

  3. Deliver a formal presentation.


Program Goal 4: Graduates will demonstrate entry-level competency as a medical imaging professional.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Consistently perform routine radiographic image requirements as well as general patient care competencies (ARRT).

  2. Prepared to enter the profession as a Registered Radiographer.


Program Goal 5: Graduates will portray leadership skills.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Successfully complete a leadership course.

  2. Serve in a leadership role in a college organization (IHI Open School, Student Senate, BSRS Committee, etc.).

Courses are delivered in a 15-week semester with a mix of face-to-face meetings and online methods.

Our program is fully accredited by JRCERT (Joint Review Committee of Education in Radiologic Technology) which provides programmatic accreditation and the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
